Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál is a mixed Catholic Primary School, established in 1955. The school is situated in the town of Lifford (population 1,600 approx.), a border town in East Donegal. We are currently recognised as an urban disadvantaged school (Band 2) under a Department of Education and Science scheme entitled “Developing Equality of Opportunity in Schools” (DEIS). This scheme affords us a preferential Pupil-Teacher Ratio, access to a Home School Community Liaison Teacher Scheme, an improved allocation of Learning Support Teachers, access to the School Completion Programme and additional funding and training for teachers.
The current pupil numbers of approximately 105 include children from 4 years of age to 13 years of age in mixed classes from Junior Infants to Sixth Class. We cater for pupils of all ability ranges.
During their time in Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál pupils are exposed to the entire curriculum as prescribed by the Dept. of Education and Science and adapted for use in our school.
The pupils are also prepared for the Sacraments of Reconcilaition, Communion and Confirmation in co-operation with parents and Fr. Kilpatrick, Parish Priest.
Extra-curricular activities include basketball, football, athletics, soccer, after-school art and drama classes, gardening, choir and quiz activities. Many of these actiivities are funded by the School Completion Programme.
